A healthy scalp is the foundation of beautiful, strong hair. Many factors can impact scalp health, including excessive oil production, stress, lack of sleep, and an unbalanced diet. When the scalp becomes congested or irritated, it can lead to issues like dandruff, hair thinning, and even increased hair loss. Proper scalp care is essential for maintaining voluminous, shiny, and resilient hair. That’s why it’s clinically proven that applying Scalp scrub once or twice every week can efficiently reduce clogs and oil in your hair pores which is causing hair loss issues for many people.
However, it’s well known that high-quality scalp scrubs on the market can cost anywhere from $30 to $50 or even more. That’s why I am so excited to introduce you to a more economic choice, my DIY scalp scrub that you can do with your own hands. Of course, this DIY scrub can't compete with them in terms of comprehensive ingredients, but its refreshing feel, post-wash volume, and the ability to keep your hair fresh for up to three days are truly amazing. It’s affordable, easy to make, and uses clean, sustainable, and organic materials.
This scrub helps unclog hair follicles, remove excess oil, sebum buildup, keratin plugs, stubborn dirt, and dandruff with ease. It also lathers well, making it ideal for those who struggle with an oily, congested scalp or hair thinning, as well as for anyone looking to achieve a fuller, more voluminous hairstyle.
Proven Effectiveness from My Personal Experience
I had a period of nearly three weeks of late-night work, which took a toll on my scalp. During those intensive days, my hair scalp became excessively oily, smelly, red, and sensitive, and small pimples started to appear. Soon after, I noticed increased hair shedding. I searched for solutions and found only expensive scalp scrubs with good reviews or suggestion for costly, time-consuming hair spa treatments. That’s when I decided to create my own scalp scrub at home. After just one wash, my scalp felt like it was breathing again - super refreshed, and the volume was back. After two consecutive days of use, my scalp returned to a healthy, clean state. The results were immediate!

-
For very oily scalp areas, repeat the application.
Why This DIY Scrub Works
Salicylic acid is oil-soluble, meaning it effectively dissolves excess oil, unclogs follicles, and removes dead skin cells. If you have an oily scalp or folliculitis, this scrub is worth trying.
If you're a coffee lover, your leftover coffee grounds can be repurposed instead of wasted! The fine particles gently exfoliate dead skin without damaging your scalp while also delivering caffeine, which promotes blood circulation. Salicylic acid is excellent but can be strong, so I recommend diluting it with shampoo at a 1:1 ratio to reduce its concentration and irritation. If you have a sensitive scalp, adjust the ratio to 1:1.5 for a gentler wash.
Adenosine is a key ingredient in many hair growth serums, but did you know that a pack of 97% concentrated adenosine powder costs less than $5? Just add 0.5g per use, dissolve it in warm water, and mix it into your scrub. One pack can last for 50 uses!
After washing your hair with this scrub, touch your scalp, feel the freshness, and take a deep breath—there’s no more unpleasant odor! Give it a try and enjoy the transformation!
Final Words
Scalp care is just as important as skincare. Using safe and effective ingredients in your hair care routine can make a huge difference in your hair’s health and appearance. Whenever possible, opt for gentle, non-irritating shampoos and avoid harsh chemicals that may damage your scalp over time. Additionally, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, getting enough sleep, and reducing stress can contribute to overall scalp and hair health.
Lastly, finding the right hairstyle and using non-damaging hair accessories, such as soft scrunchies, can help prevent unnecessary hair breakage. Take care of your scalp, and your hair will thank you with shine, strength, and volume!
